Awesomest Song Lyrics.....

First of all, yes, I said "awesomest" to make Cheri cringe....but I regress. I was just sitting in my boring ass cube wondering how I ended up here instead of being the best chick indie-rock star EVER, (oh yeah, because my voice scares animals & small children). So, I decided to put a question out there:

What is your favorite song lyric ever? Write the lyric and give the artist and song. I guess you can have more than one but be reasonable. I have about a million and if I have to narrow it down so do you.....so come on, post already!

Teri - Feelin It Friday

My best variety so far!

  1. (Till) I Kissed You - The Everly Brothers - The Very Best of the Everly Brothers. Ugh, I'm mortified. Yes, I admit it, I'm a closet Everly Brothers fan. I was raised on it, so bite me.
  2. Borrowed Time - Styx - Greatest Hits, Part 2. Love the classics.
  3. Thought I'd Died and Gone to Heaven - Bryan Adams - Waking Up The Neighbors. Meh, I could live without this one, but I don't hate it enough to delete it.
  4. Hells Bells - AC/DC - Back in Black. Man I miss high school. Wait, who am I kidding? I hated school, just liked the parties.
  5. Raise the Barn - Keith Urban with Brooks & Dunn - Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing. Love my country hottie.

Friday, May 22, 2009

I have known for quite some time that Cheri, my boss (who shall remain nameless), and myself have never quite grown up. We are the only one’s to laugh in meetings when someone says, “the member was very firm on the phone,” or when Cheri said, “I can’t eat a whole foot-long-that’s too much for me…” Yep, we are adolescents. And, while I feel truly sorry for our spouses, I still think we are damn funny. Hence my thoughts when I read Teri’s “hump day” shuffle list…..I began to wonder, does everyone have a sex mix on there I-Pod playlists or is it just me? I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours?

Erino’s Hump-Day I-Mix (a sample):
Feelin’ Love (Paula Cole) This is the ULTIMATE get in the mood song for us chickies-just makes you wanna…………well, fuck;)
One More Night (Stars) This one is a bit disturbing but makes me feel good cause’ it’s about a girl getting one last piece before leaving her man and breaking his heart-makes me feel good, prolly cause’ it happened to me with the first asshole I loved…
1st Day of My Life (Bright Eyes) If a guy ever sang something like this to me he’d get lucky for sure…..well, before I had my husband, of course;)
Use Somebody (Kings of Leon) This one is good for slightly-still-angry make up sex
Halo-(Beyonce) Yeah, it is cheesy, but for the 6 minutes the sex generally lasts it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside
Fidelity (Regina Spektor) For some reason, Regina’s music just makes me feel beautiful, not sure why. I play this when I’m getting ready to go out somewhere special and I forget about the fact that you put knick-knacks on my ass, at least while the song plays out.
HOW DOES THIS SHIT GET ON MY I-POD?

Okay, seriously-I think my i-pod is possessed or something. I kept my pod on shuffle this afternoon and have heard the following suck-ass songs that I KNOW I did not put on here:

Night Fever (Bee Gees) Yeah, okay-I may get arguments on this but the Bee Gees truly are terrible…

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (Mason Jennings) Wow, don’t know where this came from..

Home (Michael Buble) If I listened to this whiney-ass song all the way through I would have to kill myself

Rocky Mountain Rain (Ronnie Milsap) Who the fuck is Ronnie Milsap?!

Gangstas Need Love Too (Master P) Ok, maybe P was cool like 10 years ago but seriously-what do you think would happen if I stood up in my cubical and screamed, “MAKE EM’ SAY UUUUUUHHHH!”

When The Children Cry (White Lion) Wow, talk about wanting to slit your wrists…

Faithfully (Journey) Alright, there are like 15 Journey songs on my i-pod and I can’t stand Journey-I have tried deleting them out of my computer and they creep back-it’s kind of eerie!!

Yay It's Friday Shuffle

  1. Gimme Shelter - Angelique Kidjo featuring Joss Stone - Djin Djin. Very different cover of the old Rolling Stones song.
  2. You Don't Know What Love Is - The White Stripes - Icky Thump. Good song. Good CD.
  3. Geraldine - Glasvegas - Geraldine (free iTunes download of the week.) I love this song. I love me some social workers and Geraldine is a social worker. "I will be the angel on your shoulder. My name is Geraldine and I'm your social worker."
  4. The Nearness of You - Norah Jones - Come Away with Me. I think I already had this one come up in an earlier shuffle. I still love it.
  5. Wasted - Brandi Carlile - The Story. Nice song. Not country sounding, more folky/pop. Nice.

And that's all for this week. I think the first week of shuffling went very well. Come on back now, ya' hear?

Shufflicious

1. If You Want Me to Stay - Sly and the Family Stone. What can I say? Ridiculously awesome song.

2. Ice Cream - Sarah McLachlan. This never pops up on my iPod, though I hear it all the time because it's on the lullaby cd I made for the kids to go to sleep. Though, when I hear it, I almost always think of Cheri and TJ dancing at their wedding reception.

3. Born for a Reason - The Figureheads. I have so much kid music on my iPod that I'm just happy I didn't get Elmo and the Counting Crows singing "Hold My Hand (When You Cross the Street)" or something. The Figureheads are awesome, some of my favorite music that my kids love, its appropriate, positive, and once during a concert my kids sang along into the mic on this and they were unreasonably tickled to be part of the show.

4. Vacation - The Go Gos. Wouldn't it be nice to be on vacation right now? It's all I ever wanted. How can I get away? More like STAYcation this year, GoGos.

5. Black Republican - Nas f/ Jay-Z. This song has so many naughty words I associate it with the mad run to forward it before the kids hear the M-F word for the fourth time (if you don't catch it before :15, it's completely possible). As this is a song I haven't listened to much, I am not even entirely sure what it is about. Though you have to like a song that has the phrase "whirlwind of beef..."
Okay, I'm just sayin-if I take the time to type this shit out and it doesn't save again-i am going to just snap...............

1-Lovers w/o Love (Joshua James-B Sides It's Dark Outside) I love his voice but sometimes he's a little to whiney for me-yes-the planet is poluted, yes-politicians are all dicks, yes-terrorists are scary and styrofoam cups are bad.............he goes a bit overboard at times though

2-Boy Named Sue (LIVE) (Johnny Cash-The Essential Johnny Cash) Okay, I'm going to be honest-Johnny Cash could have shit into a CD case and sold it and I would have loved it. Nothing I have ever heard of his was a disappointment, even the gospel I can hang with. Something about the raw honesty in his voice-I never tire of it. It is almost embarrassing to admit how many of his CD's I have...........

3-Happy (Jenny Lewis-Rabbit Fur Coat w/ The Watson Twins) Great song and I LOVE JL-did you know, I always wanted to be the lead singer in an all-chick punk band? Yep, the only problem is that my voice is fuckin' terrible-I mean like, scares-animals-and-small-children scary. Anyways, Jenny Lewis is one of my faves-have everything she ever did for the most part.

4-Wash Away (Joe Purdy-Julie Blue) While this song isn't my favorite song of his, I really love his voice. It's sort of sounds like good, 3-hour-long sex.......yep.

5-One More Night (Stars) Okay, so I am being honest, this really came up on its own, which is weird because I think it is my favorite song of all time. Not only because the Stars are the shit, (cause' they are), but the lyrics and undertones in this song just blow my mind. I like music that means something, like it almost hurts the artist to not get it out of their system-this song is it. Go to itunes and DL it-seriously, you won't be disappointed.

-Thats it for me, gotta go before a cubicle captain catches me bloggin.....-Erino

Cheri - Not Too Bad

  1. The World I Know - Collective Soul - Collective Soul. I like this song. Not a whole lot, but enough to listen almost all the way through.
  2. Ixtapa - Rodrigo y Gabriela - Rodrigo y Gabriela. Fantastic guitar players. This is a very good song. I'd encourage you to listen to their cover of Stairway to Heaven, also on this CD.
  3. Here Comes the Sun - Nina Simone - The Essential Nina Simone Vol. 2. I really enjoy her version. Some of her stuff is a bit too much for me but I like this one.
  4. Just a Girl - No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom. Yeah, it's a fine song. And Gwen Stefani is super HOT!
  5. Lightning Crashes - Live - Throwing Copper. Great song. I love the lead singer's voice. I've actually enjoyed every DC they've come out with. And nearly every song.

Teri - Almost Friday!

  1. I Told You So - Keith Urban - Love, Pain, & the Whole Crazy Thing. There's my hottie again.
  2. That Don't Impress Me Much - Shania Twain - Greatest Hits.
  3. You Make Loving Fun - Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits.
  4. Moving in Stereo - The Cars - Just What I Needed: The Cars Complete Greatest Hits.
  5. Stranded - Heart - These Dreams: Heart Greatest Hits. Man, I love this song, except for all the high school depression flashbacks. Man, I hate this song.

Teri - Hump Day Shuffle

  1. Heaven Can Wait - Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell.
  2. I'm O.K. - Styx - Pieces of Eight. Best "go to hell, you're no better than me" song ever. Play it when your ego needs a boost.
  3. Roll With the Changes - REO Speedwagon - The Hits. Hold your comments Erino, there's nothing wrong with REO!
  4. Let Go - Cheap Trick - Lap of Luxury.
  5. Who Wouldn't Want to Be Me - Keith Urban - Golden Road. One of my favorite country hotties. Pretty boy for sure, but definitely hot.

Erino's Shuffle

Here it is bitches;) Sort of random and gives off a yucky-flow..........sort of like your mama!!

1-"Sad & Beautiful World" (Sparklehorse) I love this song, it's the perfect mix between "gee-I-wanna-slit-my-wrists" and an afternoon of pleasant reflection......plus I'm a sucker for male singers who's voices sound like sex and hot chocolate, which I think his does.

2-Keep On Loving You-(REO Speedwagon) Why the fuck is this on my i-pod...........

3-We Takin' Over (DJ Khalid w/ T.I., Akon, Birdman, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe and Rick Ross) This song is a jam, love TI's verse-doesn't flow real great with the REO..........again, don't know how that got there

4-The Giant of Illinois-(Andrew Bird on "Dark Was The Night" charity album for domestic violence) This is one of the best complilation CD's I have ever bought-it has like 40 tracks on it and almost all the proceeds go to domestic violence charities. You can pick it up and Urban Outfitters or just dl it off of itunes-you won't be disappointed. This track is one of the best ones too

5-One More Night-(Stars) If you guys do NOTHING else tonight-go home and download this song off of ITUNES-I love this song, and not just cause I love the Stars, but because it's so honest and raw-it plays just like how thoughts run through your mind-high quality shit, seriously

Cheri - No Two Alike

First off, I'm happy to see folks posting! I look forward to finding some great new music this way. And away we go...

  1. The Nearness of You - Norah Jones - Come Away With Me. I love this album. I really do. I'm a sucker for a velvet voice and smooth piano. I have to close my eyes now and enjoy for a few minutes...
  2. Mais Cu'Est-Ce? - Zap Mama - Sabsylma. I know some people who just don't enjoy Zap Mama. I'm not one of them. This song in particular really showcases what they can do with simple items and their voices. I saw a concert of theirs on PBS several years ago and I was shocked to see that they used no musical instruments. Their newer stuff doesn't seem to follow the same tradition. And I like it less.
  3. Have You Ever - Brandi Carlile - The Story. I do like some of her stuff a lot. This one, not as much. It's a bit too country for me. She's got a bit too much twang going for my tastes. But she is a lesbo so she gets extra points.
  4. Top of the World - God-dess & She - Stand Up. Two Madison chicks rapping. One, God-dess, is really a rapper and the other, She, is more of a regular R&B singer. They do sound good together and I like the title cut. This song is pretty unremarkable, except for mentioning Madison, Milwaukee, and Laverne & Shirley.
  5. Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce - Greatest Hits. I keep meaning to delete this song from my iPod. I like it fine but not enough to listen to it more than once a year or so.

Teri - The Tuesday Shuffle

  1. Roll With the Changes - REO Speedwagon - The Hits.
  2. Can't Stop Falling Into Love - Cheap Trick - Busted.
  3. Drive - Cars - Just What I Needed: The Cars Complete Greatest Hits.
  4. Only the Young - Journey - Journey's Greatest Hits.
  5. Desperado - Clint Black - Greatest Hits.

I'm a greatest hits album collector. I like to know I'm getting my money's worth from a purchase. All of the above songs are great, except #5. That's just a mediocre cover of the Eagles classic. Got the original on my iPod, too.

Teri - Where's the Country?

  1. Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' - Journey - Journey's Greatest Hits.
  2. Can't Stop Loving' You - Van Halen - The Best of Van Halen.
  3. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith - O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits.
  4. I Don't Want to Cry - Mariah Carey - Mariah Carey.
  5. Take Me Back - McAuley Schenker Group - Save Yourself.

Finally got around to adding my 80's and 90's rock/metal CDs to my iPod. Now I sort of miss all the county I was getting on my previously limited shuffle. Time to finish adding my country CDs to my library. Quit laughing. Country music has some great story songs...

Cheri - Nice and Mellow

  1. Na Laethe Bhi - Clannad - Banba. Very nice & mellow. Perfect for work, reading, meditation, you know, when you need something relaxing in the background or something to help you float away.
  2. Beautiful - India.Arie - Acoustic Soul. What a beautiful voice. She sounds fantastic with the easy flow of the music. And her lyrics are positive and uplifting. You know, the opposite of me most times.
  3. On Your Shore - Enya - Watermark. See my comments for #1.
  4. Witness - Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing. This song is one of my faves. It also is found on my "slit your wrists" playlists (thank TJ for the name) that I listen to when reading angst filled fiction or feeling sad.
  5. I'm Sensitive - Jewel - Pieces of you. Nice song. I used to like this song more than I do now and I usually fast forward through it. Nice message but the guitar is annoying.

I'm just as bad as Kate with the lack of new music. At least she had 32 Flavors to redeem herself a bit.

Iman's Shuffle

You raise me up -  Paul Potts
Mas que nada - Black eyed Peas ft. Sergio Mendes
Love's recovery - Indigo Girls
Vives en mi - Benny Ibarra
Be Be your Love: Rachael Yamagata

Well, I don't know what happened to the random playing. But this is the sequence I got!
I think I need updating.. :)

Kate's Shuffle:

"Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles, 1
"Epistle to Dippy" by Donovan, Donovan's Greatest Hits
"I Am Your Doctor" by Wyclef Jean, The Preacher's Son
"32 Flavors"
by Ani DiFranco, Not A Pretty Girl
"Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head" by They Might Be Giants, Dial-A-Song

I swear that I listen to music made after the turn of the century, though it is not readily apparent herein. But I do listen to "Epistle to Dippy" more often than a sane person would. In my head it's a song about childhood video games. You know, "through all levels you've been changing/ getting a little bit better no doubt/" I even have this whole elaborate thing worked out where the doctor in the song is Dr. Mario and the crystal spectacles are actually giant crystals from Echo.

Yeah, that doesn't actually make having Donovan on my iPod defensible, does it?

The Rules

Here are the rules of the shuffle:

Note the first five songs that come up randomly on your favorite music playing device. Share the song, artist, album, and any comments you'd like.

There is no skipping allowed! What comes up is what you have to share. The embarassment is part of the fun.

I think that's it.
